In his journey from the urban clerical paternal environment to the dark university, and from the aristocratic palace-barrack to the urban school-prison, The Teacher realizes that in the society he lives in, only the submissive, impotent, helpless individuals, both in body and spirit, have a place.
A society crippled where only its cripples are useful. Faced with this deadlock, in a moment of frenzy and despair, Laufffer commits a monstrous act: the obliteration of his masculinity.
Thus, the teacher will perfectly fulfill his mission: as a cripple, he will mold crippled students. In brief realistic scenes, Brecht outlines not only the brutality of Nazism but also the pitiful distortion in public and private life, in behavior, in relationships, and in the thinking of people that this regime causes.
One of the highlights of these sketches is The Jewess.
