This book attempts to outline the evolution of Byzantine church architecture from 600 to 1204. It was a particularly difficult period during which the use of simplified forms of early Christian architecture continued, while new architectural types were also being developed that would dominate henceforth.
The monuments of this period, especially the early ones, present many challenges, which I aim to present in as concise and comprehensible a manner as possible, always within the framework of a general overview that aims to outline the architectural history of the period rather than systematically examine the individual problems.
For better understanding, the descriptive part of the text includes references to images, which can be easily found in good prints of general works on Byzantine architecture. Many floor plans and sections, as well as images of the monuments being examined, are also presented. The text is supplemented with essential bibliographical references.
