The so-called "General (Financial) Accounting" usually refers to the accounting of commercial enterprises (commercial) as well as the accounting of service-providing (of all kinds) businesses, often including an introduction to the accounting of various industrial enterprises.

From a pedagogical perspective, the first volume of general financial accounting at hand serves as the foundation of the entire accounting theory and technique, where the systematic construction of the teaching material holds primary importance and significance, which, particularly for introductory accounting textbooks, is considered the most essential criterion for their success.
