This volume, which serves as a reliable guide to the theory and especially the practice of church administration, includes all the Canon Laws of the Church of Greece that are considered legally significant.
The present second edition differs substantially from the previous one, not only because nearly fifteen years have passed since the first edition and in the meantime the number of authorized laws of general validity and numerous Canon Laws of the Church of Greece has already reached two hundred and sixty-five (265), but mainly because the published Canon Laws are now organized into four parts.
The first part refers to the “Central Organization and Administration” of the Church and includes two titles, the first dedicated to the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy, the Council of the Holy Synod, and the Synodal Committees, and the second to Ecclesiastical Organizations and Services.
The second part concerns the “Regional Organization and Administration” and comprises three titles: the first dedicated to the Metropolises and Metropolitans, the second to Churches, Parishes, and Priests, and the third to Monasteries and Hermitages.
The third part of the work includes the Canon Laws related to “Church Employees” and the fourth those concerning “Church Works.” Each Canon Law provides the current legal text of the specific regulation.
This means that any amendments, changes, or additions made over time have been taken into account and incorporated into the text of each Canon Law, with detailed notes below the text. Therefore, this edition constitutes a private codification of the current regulatory framework within the Church of Greece.
