This work is part of a new effort to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach, in the form of article-by-article interpretation, of the most important European Regulations in the field of procedural law and, more broadly, in private international law, which are often involved in judicial proceedings.

The purpose of this work is to offer a reliable, well-founded, thorough, and concise analysis of the prevailing interpretation of these European Regulations, as it applies in our country and is reflected primarily in the case law of the ECJ (or CJEU) and domestic courts, where possible, also including foreign courts.

Regulation (EC) 2201/2003 of the Council of 27 November 2003 concerning jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial matters and matters of parental responsibility, which is presented here first, has been the subject of extensive case law, as cases falling within the scope of family law that involve elements of foreignness are of particular practical significance.

Collaborators of this project are esteemed legal professionals who have worked more closely, each within their area, on interpreting this specific Regulation, from the entire spectrum of the country's legal community, including judicial, advocacy, and academic circles of our various law schools. Thus, the work has a strong practical orientation, capable of effectively assisting judges or lawyers who face issues related to the application of this Regulation in their daily professional lives.
