The Virgin Mary, the mother of the Lord, the virgin in whose womb the sacred seed grew to bring salvation to humanity, is the beloved mother of Orthodox Christians.
In Greece, from the remote islands of the Aegean to the distant villages of the mainland, the famous monasteries of Mount Athos, and the large island of Cyprus, thousands of faithful gather in Her Grace to venerate Her miraculous icons and to ask for Her mercy.
Her miracles, which are witnessed daily, demonstrate the deep love that connects the Theotokos with Orthodox Christians. The Most-Holy Virgin, who bestows courage and comforts indiscriminately, is celebrated many times throughout the year, culminating on August 15th, when Her Dormition is commemorated.
