England, 1881. Two of the most significant thinkers of the 19th century live just a few kilometers apart. Charles Darwin lives in the countryside of Kent, Karl Marx in the heart of London. With their works, they have forever changed the world, each in their own way, laying new foundations for science, philosophy, and political thought.

Yet, both men suffer from insomnia and bouts of melancholy. Isolated from social life and the scientific community, Darwin spends his days studying earthworms. Marx desperately tries to write the second volume of Capital, while eagerly awaiting the uprising of the proletariat.
