Description

Description

Seismic Engineering as an autonomous scientific field can be considered a creation of the last 30-40 years. The installation of dense networks of accelerographs on a global scale, the elastic and inelastic dynamic analysis of complex structures thanks to the development of computers, the laboratory study of structural elements under inelastic cyclic loading, the development of seismic simulators for studying models as well as in situ recording systems, and finally the advancement of knowledge about the behavior of the ground in free field or in interaction with structures are the most significant steps that have contributed to the formation of this new scientific field of Engineering.

These robust steps are vividly illustrated in the evolutionary trajectory of the Anti-Seismic Regulations over the last 30 years. With the present, we aim to connect our students and the Greek Engineer with all these modern approaches to the seismic problem, always from the perspective of reinforced concrete structures.
