The Hartmann Rolta Soft plaster bandage is intended as an underlayer beneath plaster casts. It is made from synthetic cotton, specifically non-absorbent polyester fibres with a crepe texture, and is suitable for patients with very sensitive skin. Its elasticity is maintained under continuous mechanical stress and when exposed to large amounts of fluid.
The material is soft, permeable to air and exudate, and helps regulate temperature. Its self-retaining, non-slip properties help ensure wrinkle-free application, and the bandage can be applied and removed by hand. It is radiolucent and can be steam-sterilised at 121 °C. It is also used as a support and compression material, for padding splints and inside tubular bandages.
