The book "10" represents a critical turning point in the work of M. Karagatsis, and it is an unfortunate fact that the author's death irrevocably thwarted its completion.

For the first time, Karagatsis completely distances himself from his characters and crafts his novelistic material with the fearless hand of an experienced craftsman. There is no personal involvement of the author here, no participation in events through masks, autobiographical projections, identifications, or favored characters. There is narrative clarity, certainty, coolness, or even harshness.

The vast multitude of characters inhabiting "10," the working-class apartment building in Piraeus, moves with exceptional precision and flawless calculations from an author who claims the role of the all-seeing observer. A work of maturity, strict, profoundly bitter, and pessimistic, it maps and dissects Greek society of the 1950s with unprecedented and prophetic acuity (considering today's social composition).
