Once upon a time, there was a very beautiful dollhouse; it was made of red bricks, with white windows, and had real muslin curtains, a front door, and a chimney.

It belonged to two Dolls, named Lucinda and Jane; rather, it belonged to Lucinda, who never asked Jane for food.

Jane was the Cook; but she never cooked, as they received food ready-made from a box full of preserved edibles.

There were two bright red lobsters and a ham, a fish, a pudding, and some pears and oranges.

They did not depart from the plates, but they were marvelous.
