This translation was initially truncated and rough in order to be presented in the theater. It was then corrected and completed in the form that is printed here.

The translator is fully aware that the current form is not the one that could be considered definitive in our language, and that it will always remain an attempt, perhaps even a bold one, as the true intent is not to translate literally but to render poetically, in a language that is now taking shape, one of the greatest poetic creations of the ages.

However, since the first attempt was made in the theater, it is now presented in book form in a revised second edition, and simultaneously as the first translation of the work into our language with the effort to convey not only the meaning and the phrase but also the rhythmic form of the original, as far as it could fit within the rhythmic limits and be adapted without major and radical distortions to the metrical conditions of modern Greek.
