The Song blossomed, as is evident, among a pastoral people, the people of Palestine; it is a wedding song. The characters it presents are the Bride, the Man - perhaps portrayed by two protagonists - and the Chorus of women or men. This sometimes divides into two half-choruses that ask and respond (e.g. VIII 9).
The rhythm, the movements of the soul, more than the logical inference, from which one should not have too many expectations, shows us that the work consists of various units with somewhat varying boundaries.
