This edition contains studies by Bishop Athanasius Yeftich, which have been published in theological journals. It also includes one of his speeches, as well as a text of his regarding the "Primacy" of the Pope of Rome, which is published for the first time in the Greek language.
The editing of this edition was carried out by Mr. Ioannis Kourebele, Professor of Dogmatic and Symbolic Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The studies of the former Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina are arranged in such a way as to help the reader identify the functionality in developing a thematic approach that begins with the question of how the Fathers viewed the Holy Scripture and extends to how one can engage in dialogue with contemporary philosophical-political thought.
The title of the book "The First Word" is taken from Saint Maximus the Confessor, to whom two of the texts included in this edition refer. The text on the "Council" of God clarifies the context of understanding the question of the conditional or unconditional incarnation of God, while the "Commentary on the Commentaries of Saint Maximus on the State of Man in the Age to Come" clarifies theological questions such as that of the restoration of all things, while critically addressing the philosophical (conceptual) approach found in researchers of Saint Maximus.
The text on dogma and ethics in the Orthodox tradition is an interpretative approach to patristic - ecumenical theology that starts from the Definition of Chalcedon and clarifies the Christocentricity of Orthodox expression. In the interview on the Marxist and Christian understanding of religion, the concept of religion is analyzed and the view of true Orthodoxy as a non-authoritative condition of the world is clarified.
In the last text of the book, which discusses anthropology according to Al. Papadiamantis and F. Dostoevsky, the esteemed author places the ecclesiastical spirituality that permeates the works of these two great writers as the background of his analyses, while also highlighting the main spiritual characteristics expressed in their work, noting their stance on what is referred to as European culture.
