In the book 'In the Time of the Bulgar-Slayer', there are two main characters, even if the author's attention and interest do not always focus directly on them, Basil II and Samuel, Tsar of the Bulgarians. The events unfold during the long-lasting Byzantine-Bulgarian struggle, which lasted about forty years (980-1017). The plot features three children, Konstantis, Michael, their friend Alexia, and many historical figures of the time.
