ALL THE ESSAYS housed in this volume, both published and unpublished, the fruit of recent interests, follow common methodological paths and revolve, among other things, around the concepts of amalgamation and hybridity.
In the studies of the first section, titled The Politics of Desire, through texts by A. R. Raggavi, M. Karagatsis, N. Kazantzakis, and M. Doukas, we observe a kind of tightrope walking between the self and the other (in various variations), the familiar and the foreign.
In the studies of the second section, titled The Mourning of Re-creation, the dramatic protagonist in the texts of A. Sourounis, M. Kranakis, I. Karystianis, and G. Kiourtsakis emerges as the (exiled) self in its attempt to manage two places, with whatever this last can mean in terms of habits, language, memory, time, perception of its image from a different viewpoint, etc.
The essays of the volume, as they follow approximately a century and a half (spectacular) movements and changes in stylistic, ideological, aesthetic, and other fields, aspire to provide answers to questions that have already been raised and furthermore to shed light on the relationships between prose and Greek social reality.
