Description & Specifications

The photography exhibition of Mary Chatzaki "The People of Despotiko" will be hosted at the Greek Consulate in New York, as part of the events promoting Greek Culture. Because, as noted in the theoretical basis of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece, "the past is reflected in matter, in objects of all kinds (archaeological finds, works of art, traditional crafts), archaeological sites, monuments, traditional settlements, but also in knowledge, perceptions, values".
Chatzaki's photographs are of exceptional quality and their unique beauty highlights both the material cultural heritage of Greece and its intangible, unknown side. With the main theme being human activity in excavations and the restoration of antiquities in Despotiko, Antiparos, the creator also records the outstanding artistic activity of Greek marble craftsmanship. The photographer's lens harmoniously showcases both antiquities and contemporary cultural creation in Greece.
The exhibition will present photographs of works in progress and at the same time a video with archaeological evidence from Despotiko will be shown, so that through the image the timelessness of an unparalleled culture can be highlighted. Despotiko of Antiparos, ancient Prepesinthos, the sanctuary - possibly of Artemis and Apollo - with its once nationwide radiance will now radiate throughout the world.
