Nestor Matsas, a writer and director of educational films, was born in Athens. He made his first appearance in literature at a young age with short stories in 'Nea Estia' and with his book 'People of Lost Paradises'.
He has published a total of thirty-two books that have established him as one of the most representative writers of his generation. His writings have been translated into many foreign languages.
At the same time, he has 'filmed' 120 ethnographic documentaries, both short and feature-length, in Greece and in thirty countries abroad, where he has 'documented' our entire cultural heritage.
For the entirety of his literary work as well as for his educational films, he has been honored with a number of significant Greek and foreign awards, such as the award from the Academy of Athens, the State Award for Novelistic Biography, the international Hans Christian Andersen commendation, the French 'Letters, Sciences, and Arts' award, first prizes, and international distinctions at various international festivals, etc.
He is the founder of Ethnographic Cinema in our country and the first to establish folkloric programs on television that had a wide impact and directed our audience towards traditional values.
