The issue of students transitioning from one educational level to another, and specifically within the framework of compulsory education, has been at the center of pedagogical discussion in recent years, as findings from relevant research, both Greek and international, reveal the existence of both positive challenges and significant difficulties in the subsequent academic path of students.
This book explores the views of primary (teachers) and secondary education educators regarding the issue of students' transition to secondary education. The research indicates that the self-perception of the professional roles of teachers and professors varies significantly and is related to the difficulties or problems students face when transitioning from elementary school to middle school.
Regarding where potential initiatives for a smooth transition should be targeted, professors state that the focus should be on achieving cooperation between families and schools (middle schools), while teachers emphasize the collaboration between elementary and middle schools.
Finally, it is found that teachers agree to a greater extent than professors with the view that the institutional discontinuity between the two overlapping compulsory levels of education is a major factor causing difficulties or problems in the transition.
