“In an era when the Greek language is starting to acquire a new status and the demand for it is increasing sharply, we are obligated to train educators capable of this task, because the teaching of Greek as a second (or foreign) language, whether within Greece or outside of it, is a national matter and must be addressed with the appropriate seriousness and responsibility.
Greek educators, accustomed to teaching Greek as a first (or native) language, were suddenly called upon to teach it as a second language, without the necessary prerequisites being secured, without the required infrastructure, the appropriate theoretical tools, relevant experience, and basic teaching aids.
With this work, the author attempts to fill, to some extent, the gap that exists in the field of teaching Greek as a second language and to provide educators with the essential theoretical and practical support that is initially necessary for them to adequately meet the demands of this new teaching subject.
