Just a few steps from the milestone of 2000, armed with a truth that places the responsibility for the future in our hands, we realize that there are no immutable, a priori objective truths that determine our fate, but only the alternating and constantly revised perceptions and beliefs that we ourselves construct, then discard and recreate through lived experiences.
The anguished search gradually culminates as we sense that on familiar paths we will not find the map and compass we desperately seek. We sense that the problems, the symptoms - physical, psychological, and social - are not due to our own ineptitude, misfortune, or some kind of incidental involvement, but are part of the overall ambiguity that prevails.
