It is a common understanding that the education of teachers significantly determines the educational, cultural, social, professional, and economic level of the educators and, through them, the members of society in general, as the quality of the education provided is related (also) to the training of teachers.
Having this observation as a core axis, this book theoretically and empirically explores the timeless, open, and multidimensional field of teacher education. In the theoretical part, positions, views, and ideas around the subject under discussion are presented and analyzed, specifically regarding relevant decisions and actions from political parties, the role of teacher education institutions through the development of their curricula, as well as the efforts of the teachers themselves, both individually and collectively, to improve their training.
Various parameters of the issue are discussed, with an emphasis on the prerequisites that are deemed important to be fulfilled so that any changes and reforms have a greater chance of success in the educational field.
In the empirical part of the work, the research from a questionnaire conducted is presented, in which two hundred fifty active teachers from primary schools in Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, and Xanthi participated. The findings of the research, which examines teachers' views on their education at the Pedagogical Academies and the Pedagogical Departments of Primary Education, may prove useful to all stakeholders involved in the issue of teacher education.
