Description

Description

This publication presents the proceedings of the International Conference on the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures, organized under the initiative of the Presidency of the Republic and held at the Acropolis Museum on April 15, 2019.

The conference featured presentations and recorded messages from institutional figures, prominent personalities from Greece and abroad, as well as representatives of national committees for the return of the Sculptures from around the world. Its aim was to review the progress of the Greek claim so far, analyze current developments at the international level, define a common strategy, and assess the prospects for the successful final outcome of the endeavor.

As once again demonstrated with irrefutable arguments, the facts, circumstances, and actual events surrounding the removal of the Parthenon Sculptures by Lord Elgin have now become internationally utterly clear and undisputed from a historical and scientific perspective and are considered established.

No good-faith and objective evaluator can any longer entertain the slightest uncertainty or doubt about his motives, means, and methods. Driven by self-interest and opportunism, and aiming for financial gain, publicity, and promotion, Elgin unlawfully and improperly employed means to plunder and export the Parthenon Sculptures and numerous other Greek antiquities from Greece without legal permission, in a manifest act of systematic and ongoing theft.
