The AlcoSafe F-8 digital alcohol tester uses an electrochemical platinum sensor that responds to ethyl alcohol. It measures in automatic or manual mode and stores the 16 most recent results, while also recording the total number of tests. Measurement units are automatically converted between BAC, % BAC, and mg/L.

The four-digit LCD has a backlight and two colors. The airflow sensor checks the accuracy of each measurement, while the device features an invalid test indicator, temperature control, and a low battery indicator. It switches off automatically after 60 seconds of inactivity.
