The book examines the role of wreaths and olive branches in worship, daily life, and competitions, while also studying the olive tree as the tree that characterizes both the Greek and the broader Mediterranean environment. It illustrates the role of the most representative Greek tree in Greek culture, in ancient religion, as expressed through the symbolic role of the wreath in combination with the athletic ideal, as well as in modern religion.
