This book was first published in 1916, during World War I, and just six years before the Asia Minor Catastrophe. The author, as the Director of the Press Office of the High Commission in Smyrna, knowledgeable of the events firsthand, presents in detail the dark role of Germany in strengthening both the Ottoman Empire and, later, the Young Turks, with the aim of annihilating the Greek element from the then territories of Turkish rule.

The recording of events begins in 1867, when the Germans established German schools and banks in Turkey. It continues with the arming and training of the Turkish army by German military personnel during the Greco-Turkish Wars of 1897 and 1912, culminating in the persecution of the Greek population in Asia Minor and Thrace by the Turks—with the assistance of the Germans—during the period of 1914-1916.

Did they not provide him with Mauser weapons and Krupp artillery, with which they took from us, in 1897, the Thessalian plain and presented us as humble and miserable to the world? Did not the Etem pasha guide his actions according to German plans, and did our heroic fleet not confront Turkish ships of German origin in 1912? The Germans gave them not only knowledge but also weapons."
