In the past, the survival of people depended on the weather conditions, as they struggled to do what was beneficial and avoid what was harmful without agricultural veterinary medicines and the science of Meteorology.
Thus, weather forecasts based on centuries of observations were their only support on the rough road of life; for this reason, many books with such forecasts circulated since ancient times, and there are scattered related references in the works of ancient, medieval, and modern Greek and Latin authors.
Folklore observations for weather forecasting still hold true today in Greece, even though some contradict each other precisely because the geographical data varies from place to place.
