Compression socks are the most effective treatment for venous insufficiency of the lower limbs, applying pressure to the superficial veins. This helps improve blood circulation and prevent dangerous conditions such as thrombosis.

The highest compression is applied at the ankle and decreases towards the thigh, with the pressure distribution being 100% at the ankle, 50%-80% at the calf, and 20%-40% at the thigh. This compression helps prevent swelling and blood congestion.

Socks are essential in cases such as chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins, and pregnancy. They also assist individuals who undergo prolonged standing and air travel.

The use of these socks is usually restricted during the day and they are removed during nighttime sleep, as swelling increases during the day and decreases at night.

There are three levels of compression: class 1 (15-20 mmHg or 18-21 mmHg), class 2 (20-30 mmHg), and class 3 (34 – 46 mmHg). Clarification of the sock's height is recommended.
