This summer, my children, some friends, and I traveled to Macedonia. We were Nikolas, Christina, Vasilis, Olympia, Kostas, Christos, Eleni, Alekos, and Argini. We met people, cities, and villages and experienced the beautiful land of Macedonia with its fertile plains, rivers, and mountains.
Everywhere, everything—the words of the people, the legends, the traditions, and the monuments—spoke to us about the long-standing presence of the Greeks in this area from ancient times to the present day. The children remembered Alexander and his great campaign. Thus began a great discussion, as each one had something to say or ask about that distant era.
So, we decided to visit various museums and archaeological sites, where the Greek land has revealed rich archaeological finds from that time. We went to the Museum of Thessaloniki, Vergina, and Pella, and we saw cities, houses, tombs, temples, statues, jewelry, everyday utensils, tools, and toys.
A magical world came to life before us. A captivating world was urging us to "travel back to the past" and get to know it.
