This work aims at a synchronic interpretative and descriptive analysis of modern Greek, which will assist its users in oral and written communication.
The authors' intention is for this grammar to be usable by a wide range of people - from those who have only a basic knowledge of Greek to those who demonstrate a high proficiency in written and/or spoken communication.
The linguistic variety described is primarily that used by native speakers of Greek, who reside in the urban centers of Greece and have completed at least compulsory education.
There is no attempt to present all the alternative varieties that are still in use today, nor the multitude of varieties that appear in Greek poetry and prose.
However, various alternative forms of morphology found in literature are mentioned secondarily, as well as specific forms of katharevousa that occur in various instances.
