The period from 1967 to 1970 is one of the most interesting in modern Cypriot history. Key events of this period included the crisis in the Turkish Cypriot village of Kofinou in November 1967, which resulted in the withdrawal of the Greek division from Cyprus.

The cooperation of Cyprus' Minister of Interior, Polykarpou Georgatzis, with Alekos Panagoulis in the latter's attempt to assassinate the dictator Georgios Papadopoulos and Georgatzis' subsequent resignation from his position. The conflict between Georgatzis and Makarios and his involvement in the assassination attempt on the President of Cyprus, in collaboration with Greek officers.
