- When the temperature is low, there is a chance that plasti dip® will not spray evenly due to freezing. The best we can do is to place the spray in warm water for 5-10 minutes or warm it on a radiator. This causes the mixture inside to soften and achieve the smooth result we want.
- Before proceeding to paint a car or motorcycle with plasti dip®, it is advisable not to have applied any wax or polish previously, as there is a possibility that plasti dip® may not apply properly.
- We never paint a car or motorcycle if it has been previously painted with factory paint. At least one year must have passed to avoid problems with the varnish.
- When you want to create a stripe on a surface to achieve a straight line, you should remove the tape at the sixth "coat" (enough for a good result) while the plasti dip® is still wet. This is because plasti dip® has the property of re-liquefying when it falls on an already painted surface. Otherwise, if the tape is removed after it dries, it will spoil the straight line we created.
- When spraying, always hold the spray can or gun perpendicular to the surface. The distance should be 10-15 cm.
- It is advisable to spray in a space without wind because the air might carry the material and dry the mist in places we don't want. As a result, the surface there will not be smooth but will have a sandpaper texture.
- Always clean the surface well before painting and make sure there is no moisture in the various crevices.
- During periods of low temperatures, each "coat" requires more time to dry.
- You can wash your car or motorcycle about ten days later without worry, even with a pressure washer. Initially, you should take extra care. Over time, plasti dip® becomes very strong. We recommend applying the special Dip Protect wax approximately every one and a half months.
- The ratio of thick plasti dip® to solvent for spraying with a gun is 1:1. There is also now diluted plasti dip® spray available which has a much better composition, coverage, and durability and is sprayed directly.
- To spray plasti dip® correctly, the spray gun should have a 1.5-2mm nozzle, low pressure (1.5-2 bar), the ability to spray in a vertical fan pattern, and adjustable volume because the first "coat" should be light to create a base (coverage about 50%). The remaining 6 "coats" should be rich.
- At least 6 good "coats" must be applied, especially on large surfaces such as a car, so that it can be removed in large pieces and without difficulty when desired.
- Never wash with active foam widely used in car washes. Use only simple soapy water.
- Be very careful with gasoline. Contact with plasti dip® can cause it to fade. It is advisable to inform the employees at gas stations.
- High Gloss Top Coat: Apply 3 good "coats" for the ideal result. Allow about 30 minutes between coats. The spray gun should be passed quickly to avoid runs. The smoother the plasti dip® underneath, the greater the reflection of the high gloss top coat.
