This expansion enhances a mediocre core game with interesting characters and scenarios. The new terror mechanic provides an alternative system to anomalies, increasing the difficulty as time passes.

Under the assumption that you like Howard Phillips Lovecraft and the world of his novels with immortal, mythical monsters that come from the water, etc., Arkham Horror is a perfectly thematic game that should not be missing from your collection. This specific expansion, Under the Dark Waves, offers additional investigation areas and 8 new investigators. It includes 4 new scenarios and many additional event cards, encounters, etc.

If you already know Arkham Horror, you won't have any problems with the rules, preparation, and gameplay process. Like almost all games, you will enjoy it more with more than 2-3 players, and the completion time of each session is always longer than what is stated on the box. It takes us at least 2.5 hours for each game with 3 players. But we have snacks and drinks on the table. If you play more focused, you might go faster. However, many choose such games precisely because they offer many hours of entertainment. Therefore, the long completion time is not necessarily a negative thing. If you don't want your sessions to be long, prefer other games. All games of this type are lengthy. Also, like almost all thematic games, this expansion is completely language-dependent, as all the cards have a lot of text and many elements in English. However, the manufacturers, keeping the global market in mind, choose simplified English. You won't have difficulty. Only some "flavor text" maintains the literary style with special words, and not always.

Overall, I would say that the new elements introduced by this expansion in the base game are interesting and worth its price, both as a game and as an item for your collection because the contents are of high quality. However, there has been a lot of fuss with the bases for the tiles, which are normally included in the box and are listed in the contents in the rulebook. In many cases, as we learn from international forums, you won't find them inside the box, and as it has been proven, sending emails, searching to find your right in the store that will refer you to the headquarters of Fantasy Flight, etc., is a waste of time (something needs to be done about this). However, in essence, with the bases from the base edition that you already have, they won't take away from your gameplay because they are sufficient.
