Description

The King's Dilemma, a unique storytelling game, an interactive experience with a deck-building mechanism at its core and branching story features that lead to one of many possible endings.

In the game, players represent the various factions that govern a kingdom: merchants, scholars, priests, etc. Players draw cards from a common deck and experience the game's story as it unfolds before them. Each card drawn presents a problem to the council that must be resolved on behalf of the king. As members of the Royal Council, players shape the game's story with their decisions and determine the fate of the kingdom.

A taste of the game!

The players represent the various Houses that lead the kingdom of Ankist.

In each round, you draw a card from the "Dilemmas Deck" and watch the story of the game unfold. Each card presents a problem that the Council must solve on behalf of the King. As members of the inner circle, your decisions shape the course of the story and the future of the entire kingdom. Each event appears only once: you discuss and negotiate with the other players, and ultimately make a decision that determines the outcome, advances the narrative, and possibly unlocks new events.

You must keep the kingdom standing, while also pursuing the interests of your own House. This conflict of interests can lead the kingdom to war, famine, or rebellions — or, conversely, bring wealth and prosperity. Everything depends on your choices. The challenge is that every decision has consequences, and what is good for the kingdom overall might be bad for your own family…

Will you act for the common good or only think of yourself?

  • Very good. Excellent intrigue and backstabbing. A bit disappointing at the end, but still worth the money as it offered MANY hours of fun with friends.
Legacy game, just so you know. This means that yes, you will gather for 20-30 sessions, but afterwards you won't be able to play the game again. This is the point, of course, I just mention it for the random person who might accidentally come across this board game.

  • In order to experience the best possible experience that the game can offer, ideally 5 players are needed (we played with 4 and there were moments where the presence of one more player would have made a significant difference in the voting) and the players should be consistently the same from the first session until the last. Additionally, the game relies heavily on storytelling, the scenario, and the players' choices rather than on determining a final winner.
