Description

It is now a common observation among those involved in Folklore in our country that since the 1990s, the field of Urban Folklore has made significant strides, thanks to the research and writing work of certain Greek folklorists. However, until now, there has been a systematic manual that serves as a coherent introduction to this branch of science. The "Introduction to Urban Folklore" aims to fill this gap.

Specifically, the book initially presents in detail the concepts of the city, cultures, and identities in the contemporary urban space. It follows the course of the formation of the modern Greek city. Then, a brief overview of the theoretical Schools of research on the urban space in Sociology and Social Anthropology is provided.

In the main section of the study, the developments in the field of Urban Folklore are presented both abroad (Europe and America) and in Greece. In particular, emphasis is placed on the analysis of the work of both earlier and contemporary folklorists. It also includes the research methodology of social phenomena in urban space, as well as a detailed description of the various themes that a researcher can investigate in modern cities.

The book updates readers on all the latest developments in a dynamically evolving field of the science of Folklore. It serves as a useful guide for anyone involved in Folklore as well as in the humanities and social sciences more broadly.
