One important reason why you should not look to buy the cheapest USB cable you can find is that the cheaper it is, the more likely it is that the thickness of the copper used for the conductors is very thin.

    And the thinner the copper, the greater the resistance, so the voltage drop along the cable increases. Now, if you simply intend to use it to connect USB flash drives, this is not of great importance. However, if you want to connect devices that have somewhat higher power consumption, such as WiFi adapters, external hard drives, etc., then you will have a problem.

    For this reason, I highly recommend investing around $10 in a quality USB cable, and I promise you will not regret it.
