Finis Graeciae was the title of a text published by Christos Giannaras in 1986, twenty-five years ago, when our country was dominated by the made in Greece version of socialism and on the dance floors was Lefteris Pantazis.

There is a longstanding reading behavior that considers exaggerations legitimate for authors. So, I think, the agony of that wording was overlooked. Not as a literal meaning.

That's why we continued our lives trusting the formulations of others, less competent but also less distressing.

And we marched and traded through the perennial metaphysical self-deception that "Greece never dies". Immortal greatness in the Stock Exchanges, distinguished in the "Olympiads" and begging in the Markets. And all this in the name of "patriotism"! A freebie patriotism that - even now - becomes arrogance and rhetoric.

Today, when we not only touch the truth of that formulation but sink into its unconfessed verification, we choose to bypass it again. Finis Graeciae. Not because we ran out of money but because we denied ourselves. We became the tail of modernity, pretending to be the partner of a gang. Because the only thing we have to defend is our return to the Markets. Nothing else.
