In recent decades, research in the science of Mathematics Education and Cognitive Psychology has uncovered many details related to how children learn various concepts and situations in Basic Arithmetic, many of which are unknown to the majority of teachers in our country.
By utilizing all these modern findings, this book presents the way in which a child reaches an understanding of the concept of number, starting from the knowledge and skills they possess from preschool age. It examines, in a developmental process, the abilities of oral counting, enumeration, number preservation, writing numbers, basic addition and subtraction, etc.
It also presents how, from preschool age and through development until adulthood, mental learning of the four basic arithmetic operations begins and progresses, along with the storage of their results in memory.
