Once, he says, he went to visit an aunt of his who was bedridden. He was a restless kid. She saw him, someone who couldn't sit still, and thought to give him a piece of advice: "Learn to drive anything that helps you escape." He took that advice to heart and set as his life's goal to climb the entire hierarchy of wheels. From scooter and bicycle to motorcycle and car. He had some reservations about airplanes.
However, his greatest weakness turned out to be the Mercedes. It became his shell and ark, as, over the years, he felt like a turtle and a creature of the Flood. And all of this during the great drought. He lived the grand adventure of the national road, distributing the kilometers according to the Maries he encountered.
He introduced himself according to the occasion: sometimes as Panic and sometimes as the son of the opportunist. But in the scene, they called him the Beyond... And this was because when he reached his destination, he would say: "Alright, we’ve arrived, but if we had gone further, perhaps things would have been different. Maybe we would have discovered something else..."
Wandering like an unjust curse –in a metaphysical place– the pirate with the Mercedes narrates in the first person his experience with the caravans of Roma and the exchanges with the passengers of his vehicle. He keeps for his personal use the summary of his thoughts or whatever, in the end, arises from each encounter.
Like this one with a Roma woman who told him during a strange journey: "Never use the tents of the gypsies as a landmark..." His own conclusion, in the end: What we chase is elusive! And let’s not be surprised that the world looks at us strangely, for in their eyes, we resemble the madman trying to step on his own shadow.
