The metal covers of the washing machine had rust in some places, so I removed them to sand and paint them, but while sanding I saw that in some spots there was no way to get down to clean metal and the rust had gone through the full thickness of the sheet metal.
So I got this rust stabilizer to apply to the difficult spots so the corrosion wouldn’t continue any further.
The product is a milk-like liquid, but it needs to be stirred very well because the thick substance settles at the bottom of the bottle (I mixed it very well with a stick).
I applied it simply with a sponge while wearing a glove; there is no concept of finishing.
The next day, when I went to see what had happened, I found a problem. The metal surfaces and the brownish spots had turned black, which was a good sign, but where the product had been applied a little more or had dripped, it had solidified so strongly that it would not come off at all. Not with water, not with turpentine, not even with a straight wire brush!
We are not talking about simple stains, as they had a pronounced buildup in many places. As you can see in the photo, these are the beige stains on the white, but the metal areas where the product was primarily applied are also full of it (although they are not visible because they are on the black background).
I had intended to paint the covers white afterward, but because the stains would not come off at all (I managed to remove a little of the thicker buildup by scraping with a blade!), in the end I just painted over them and now whatever happens, happens. I was forced to paint areas I didn’t want to in order to cover the beige on the white.
In an attempt to clean them with sandpaper, I noticed that by removing a very superficial layer of the metal, a brown color would appear again underneath, so the product probably did not penetrate as deeply into the metal as I would have liked...
In summary, the stains and residue left by this liquid are such a big problem that I’m thinking of never using it again for that reason alone. Unless some other process was used, e.g. wiping away the residue a few minutes after applying the liquid before it dried completely, but that is a hassle too and nothing relevant is mentioned on the packaging. The paint I applied may not even have adhered and could crack soon, and the whole project may have gone to waste.
I’m giving 2 stars solely because of this problem, which I consider major and which may have made the product do more harm than good.
Τα μεταλλικά καπάκια του πλυντηρίου ρούχων είχαν σκουριά σε μερικά σημεία οπότε τα έβγαλα για να τα τρίψω και να τα βάψω, αλλά τρίβοντας είδα ότι σε κάποια σημεία δεν έβγαινε με τίποτα καθαρό μέταλλο και η ψώρα ήταν σε όλο το πάχος της λαμαρίνας.
Οπότε πήρα αυτόν τον σταθεροποιητή σκουριάς να βάλω στα δύσκολα σημεία να μην συνεχίσει περαιτέρω η διάβρωση.
Το προϊόν είναι ένα υγρό σαν γάλα το οποίο όμως θέλει πολύ καλή ανάδευση γιατί κατακάθεται η πηχτή ουσία στον πάτο του μπουκαλιού (ανακάτεψα πολύ καλά και με ένα ξύλο).
Το εφάρμοσα απλά με ένα σφουγγαράκι φορώντας γάντι, δεν υπάρχει η έννοια του φινιρίσματος.
Την άλλη μέρα που πήγα να δω τι έγινε βρήκα ένα πρόβλημα. Οι μεταλλικές επιφάνειες και τα καφετί σημεία είχαν μαυρίσει, κάτι που ήταν καλό σημάδι, αλλά το προϊόν όπου είχε πέσει λίγο παραπάνω ή είχε στάξει, είχε στερεοποιηθεί τόσο έντονα που δεν έφευγε με τίποτα. Ούτε με νερό, ούτε με νέφτι, ούτε καν με ίσια συρματόβουρτσα!
Δεν μιλάμε για απλούς λεκέδες καθώς είχαν έντονο όγκο σε πολλά σημεία. Όπως βλέπετε στην φωτογραφία, πρόκειται για τους μπεζ λεκέδες πάνω στο άσπρο, αλλά είναι γεμάτα και τα μεταλλικά σημεία στα οποία εφαρμόστηκε πρωτίστως το προϊόν (παρότι δεν φαίνονται καθώς είναι στο μαύρο φόντο).
Τα καπάκια σκόπευα μετά να τα βάψω άσπρα αλλά επειδή οι λεκέδες δεν έφευγαν με τίποτα (λίγο τα χοντρά έβγαλα ξύνοντας με λάμα!) τελικά απλά έβαψα από πάνω και τώρα ό,τι γίνει έγινε. Αναγκάστηκα να βάψω και σημεία που δεν ήθελα για να καλύψω τα μπεζ πάνω στο άσπρο.
Σε μια προσπάθεια να τους καθαρίσω με γυαλόχαρτο, παρατήρησα ότι αφαιρώντας μια πολύ επιφανειακή στρώση του μετάλλου, από κάτω έβγαινε πάλι καφέ χρώμα, οπότε μάλλον το προϊόν δεν εισχώρησε τόσο βαθειά στο μέταλλο όσο θα ήθελα...
Συνοψίζοντας, οι λεκέδες και τα υπολείμματα που αφήνει αυτό το υγρό είναι τόσο μεγάλο πρόβλημα που σκέφτομαι να μην το ξαναχρησιμοποιήσω μόνο και μόνο για αυτό. Εκτός αν γινόταν κάποια άλλη διαδικασία, πχ σκούπιζα τα υπολείμματα λίγα λεπτά με την εφαρμογή του υγρού πριν στεγνώσει τελείως αλλά και αυτό μπελάς είναι και δεν αναφέρεται και τίποτα σχετικό στην συσκευασία. Παίζει να μην έχει πιάσει καν η μπογιά που έβαλα και να σκάσει σύντομα, και να έχει πάει στράφι όλο το πρότζεκτ.
Βάζω 2 αστέρια μόνο και μόνο για αυτό το πρόβλημα το οποίο θεωρώ μεγάλο και ίσως το προϊόν τελικά περισσότερο κακό να έκανε παρά καλό.
