In the same way that the texts of Melpo Axioti converse with each other, I want to believe that my critical contributions collected in this volume also engage in dialogue.
Thus, questions such as the following resurface, both subtly and overtly, in the readings: How does time function in Axioti’s texts? How are classical realistic conventions undermined and overturned, and consequently, how are modern experimental practices in her writing traced? How is nostalgia manifested? And furthermore, how does dialogicality emerge as a guiding principle in place of monolithism and didacticism?
The studies in this volume strive to answer these questions and many more, while simultaneously offering a comprehensive picture of Axioti's work.
The book also includes critical perspectives on her work from 1938 to 1994. The "Critical Anthology of Unpublished Letters" that follows allows the reader to follow the warm and friendly words of well-known writers, such as Yiannis Ritsos, Stratis Tsirkas, Kiki Dimoula, Kosmas Politis, Takis Papatsonis, among others, regarding Axioti's work and contributions.
