In Solomos' work, themes such as the unity of the universe, global harmony, the balance of forces, the first day of creation, the inner, with 'the eyes of the soul,' sense of the world, and an abundance of ecstasies, spiritual ascensions, visions, mystical sounds and voices, etc., frequently reoccur.
These themes, the same and related ones, sometimes even with the same phrasing, can also be found in many French works from the first half of the 19th century, where systematically, as we learn from the relevant French literature, they are always traced back to the same source, namely to the widely spread mystical texts of that time by Swedenborg, mainly, and Saint-Martin.
This paper studies all such topics and symbols that appear, with almost dogmatic consistency, in Carmen Seculare, thus attempting a preliminary exploration of this mystical aspect of Solomos' work.
