Alcibiades, in front of Socrates, made an attempt at seduction, wanting to turn him into a tool, subservient to his own desire, the good object.

Socrates, as it seems, carries within him the good object. It is nothing but the shell of what constitutes the object of desire. Alcibiades wishes to show that Socrates is, in relation to him, the slave of his desire. This desire of Socrates, although known to him, he wanted to see manifested, to know that the other, the object of desire, was at his mercy.

However, Alcibiades' failure to complete this attempt fills him with shame and adds weight to his confession. The most scandalous secret is revealed, the ultimate motive of desire, which we always tend to conceal, in love - its aim is the fall of the Other.
