Description

The publication includes the texts of the speeches delivered during the Conference '1821 and Memoirs. Historical Use and Historiographical Knowledge', which was organized by the Parliament Foundation on March 21-22, 2019, as part of the Action Cycle '1821-2021. 200 Years since the Greek Revolution. History - Archives - Memory' by the Parliament Foundation.

The Memoirs were a result of the desire of people very early on, since the years of the Struggle, to document their experiences: unprecedented experiences that defined their lives and transformed their world.

In the post-revolutionary years, many fighters wrote their own testimonies, aiming not only to capture the truth and reality, as they usually state, but also at times to showcase their achievements, seek vindication, restoration, and claim symbolic or even material rewards.

This publication aims to contribute to the continuation and expansion of the dialogue surrounding the historical trajectory of the memoirs, as well as contemporary perspectives on their significance and ways of reading them. The participation of established researchers, both older and younger, the variety and range of approaches, and the well-documented arguments are factors that we believe ensure the validity of the endeavor.
