Gregory Fleas was born in the year 1788 in the aforementioned village of Polianni. During his childhood, he was apprenticed to a certain monk. Then, around 1808, his father's cousin Panagiotis was at that time the chieftain of the mentioned province.
Having children and wanting to educate them, he sent them to the Greek school of Dimitzani, the most official one throughout the Peloponnese at that time, and with them his nephew Gregory, where he learned all the subjects that were taught at that school.
Since he naturally loved the freedom of his homeland, he was an enemy of the Turks, and he believed that the most suitable stage for action towards the liberation of the nation was then the clerical one, especially the monastic order.
Having an inclination and a strong love for this life, after his exit from school, he became a monk and lived in the monastery of Velanidia, which is located near Kalamon and is particularly known as Panagitsa. This happened in the year 1816.
