By selecting the texts based on historical and evaluative criteria, the editor of the volume aims to give both the researcher and the general reader of Cavafian poetry the opportunity to engage with the most significant texts in Cavafian literature, some of which are also among the most important texts in Modern Greek criticism.

The classification of the material into chronological sections allows one to follow the evolutionary path of Cavafian studies. The anthology covers a period of 90 years (1903-1993) and is complemented by a selection of bibliography.
