As a central element of human experience, language is the quintessential subject that seeks and demands an interdisciplinary approach. Biology, Linguistics, Psychoanalysis, Philosophy, Pedagogy, Literary Theory, as well as Physics and Mathematics are some of the sciences that have something to say about the phenomenon of language.

In this volume - the product of a three-day symposium organized by the University of Patras - scientists from all these fields present their views, thus contributing to the initiation of a multidisciplinary dialogue that addresses not only specialists but also the wider educated public.
