This work, apart from its historical content, constitutes the personal testimony of Kostas Mpiris, who - in his long-term professional capacity - faced the disparate practices that ultimately defined the current urban planning image of the capital.

He recorded in this work the improvement interventions he proposed, some of which were implemented, proving today to be crucial in the effort to alleviate congestion in Athens.

The need for the reissue of this work has been highlighted for several years, as its first appearance was recognized as the foundational work for the urban, architectural, and social evolution of modern Athens.
