Summary
This book represents an endeavor to capture and analyze childhood that transcends traditional views of the child and childhood. At the same time, the author uses the portrayals, perceptions, and the political and management practices adopted over time and contemporaneously for the child to shape a perspective on society itself and the formation of the social subject. As he himself states: "Understanding adulthood and society in general becomes impossible without a prior perspective on the child." By analyzing the contradictions in discourses on childhood, the internal contradictions and contrasts of adult society, as well as the principles of social control and power that govern it, are brought to light.

This is a classic work that has contributed to the shaping of the field of sociology of childhood in a particular way, and in this sense, its translation into Greek can contribute to the ongoing discussion sparked by significant texts and translations by Greek sociologists.
