The London Underground is the world's first underground passenger railway, opened in 1863. Its 11 lines transport about 5 million passengers daily across 270 stations, spanning 400 km.

The extensive network of London Underground stations is one of the most complex transportation systems in the world, and the game On the Underground challenges you to develop it. Create the most successful lines, connect them to landmarks, and attract passenger traffic!

Game Overview

In On the Underground, players build underground railway lines in London or U-Bahn lines in Berlin. Each player controls 2-4 different lines, depending on the number of players.

In each round, four destination cards are available, which correspond to stations on the map. You can take up to four actions; an action is either building a railway line by placing one of your line's tokens on the board or taking a branch token. A player can use two branch tokens to extend an existing line.

After each player's turn, a passenger token moves along the players' lines, avoiding walking as much as possible, to reach one or two destinations set at the beginning of the round. The destination cards that correspond to the visited stations are then replaced with new ones, and the next player takes their turn.

Players score points in two ways:

• Building lines and connecting their lines to various types of stations, either by building a circular network (in London) or at the end of the game if they have collected tiles from specific landmark stations (in Berlin).
• Allowing the passenger to use their lines during transit.

After all destination cards are drawn and all players have taken the same number of turns, the game ends.

Differences from the First Edition of On the Underground

• For their first few turns only, the player who is first in order receives three actions, and the player who is last in order receives five actions.
• The passenger is no longer immediately removed from the board when the draw pile is empty.
• There is a new map of Berlin, along with corresponding cards and tiles.
• On the London map, these single connections have become double: Paddington-Shepherd's Bush, Shepherd's Bush-Goldhawk Road, Goldhawk Road-Hammersmith, Waterloo-Borough, London Bridge-Bank, Stratford-West Ham, and West Ham-Canning Town.
• On the London map, this double connection has become a triple connection: Borough-London Bridge.
• On the London map, the New Cross station has been removed, as well as the connection between Aldgate and Canada Water.
